The Rise of a New Generation
FeaturesA throng of youth that are seven hundred (700) strong attended the most awaited event despite the rain, the muddy streets and the terrible traffic.

[Written By Kristoffer Pasion.]
With practically no major marketing whatsoever, the event was packed with young people who did not allow anything to hinder them from coming together to know and become part of the launching of this new movement called BRYORG – or the Brown Raise Youth Organization.

Crowds of Youth lining up outside the Crossroad 77 Convention Center.
Crowds of young people cheering and jamming. People raving for raps and Balagtasan. Young people jumping in excitement. Hands were flung up in the air as the band sang “Awit ng Kabataan!” Just when you think it’s another youth concert, it was so much more.

Set design inside the Convenarium.

PALABAN! During a lecture of Adarna.
The whole event was thrilling in itself as it was started with the electrifying VJs of Brown Raise, and as the rock band “Sulong Na” sings “Brown Raise Youth Org 1 to SAWA!” to the surprise of the audience. The launching was attended by young people all over Luzon. Students came all the way from Baguio, Bataan, Novaliches, Quezon City, Marikina, Pampanga, Tarlac, Makati, etc. (The youth from Baguio traveled 7 hours by bus going to Manila and another 7 hours going back to Baguio—and then straight to their summer classes in the city of pines.) Cool AVPs of BRYORG were shown. Various speakers shared their experiences to challenge the people, also with surprising revelations of the faces behind the blog entries of Brown Raise. Sagwan Namwaran spoke of his experience as a Filipino representative in the ASEAN Youth Conferences and what the Filipino youth can learn from their Asian neighbors. Adarna shared what an ideal Filipino youth should be like and how our Asian neighbors are pushing their youth to new heights for their country. Lipad-Lawin, Adarna and Apolinariang Binibini shared the Brown Raise Movement’s vision and 8-point-dream for this soon-to-rise explosive and talented new breed of Filipinos. Six clubs of BRYORG which will prepare our young people to fight the bigger fight for the dignity of our race were also opened. These exciting clubs inspired by the spirit and patriotic visions of SONY’s Akio Morita-Masaru Ibuka partnership are: Engineering, Science and Math, History, Literature, Art and Music. From these BRYORG groups, we shall have future scientists, Nobel laureates, Olympians, Pulitzer winners, and future leaders of our country, who shall pioneer and tread a new path for the Filipino people. As William Carey famously said, “Attempt great things, dream great things!”

Manong Sorbetero during the break.

The Dugtungan Rap (on the spot) game.

Our very own local version – Balagtasan.
From 1pm to 12 midnight, the Crossroad 77 Convenarium remained packed with young people. The Brown Raise gave them a sumptuous feast of Pinoy merienda – palitaw, pancit palabok and the all Filipino “sorbetes” ice cream that comes with the nostalgic ice cream cart. For dinner they had rice, tasty chicken adobo and “itlog na maalat” on the side. However, food for the body is still no match with food for the soul. Armed with the mandate of EQUIPPING these young people for the Asian Century, the Brown Raise Movement surprised them with free kits containing official stickers of the movement and all-new fresh copies of “The First Filipino” by Leon Ma. Guerrero,—all given for free for the love of these New Rizals. Nawala ang pagod nila! Nakakatuwa! We have long dreamt that the youth of this country would not long for anything less than something that can feed their minds and hearts, the best of which is a book! A resounding ovation amidst tired faces broke out in the auditorium as each attendee received their kit with giddiness that is innate in our youth.

The BRYORG Cheer!
I sat there amazed and privileged to be part of this new work that this movement has begun. I remember what Lipad-Lawin said, that all our next generation needs is someone to point them to a noble dream and a new direction. And what I have seen in the eyes of the famous Chinese Olympian Liu Xiang, a fighting spirit, I saw those eyes that day in our young people. No more timidity. No more blank stares. Those stares were fiery and piercing stares.

I remember the heart-wrenching dream of Rizal in El Filibusterismo:
“Where are the youth who will CONSECRATE their budding years, their idealism and enthusiasm to the welfare of their country? Where are the youth who will generously pour out their blood to wash away so much shame, so much crime, so much abomination? Pure and spotless must the victim be, that the sacrifice may be acceptable! Where are you, youth, who will embody in yourselves the vigor of life that has lifted our veins, the purity of ideas that has been contaminated in our hearts? We await you, O youth! Come, for we await you!”
They are here, Rizal, continuing the fight that you have begun a hundred years ago, living simple but steadfast and intense lives filled with deep conviction and without any longing for acclaim. They are here dedicating their future, their dreams and hopes at the cost of looking like fools to men of lesser character. They are here, choosing the unpopular courses such as agriculture and marine biology, because it is the need of our country. They are here, hobbits of the Shire, ready to shake the foundations of 400-years of mental slavery. The Frodos and the Sams, choosing to fight the larger war of securing the future of our own Middle Earth—our Perlas ng Silanganan—our beloved Philippines. One day, a new chapter in our history shall unfold. One day, the brown-skinned descendants of Lapu-lapu, Dagohoy and Rizal will usher in the dawning of a Brown Renaissance for our beloved country–all because a generation of youth chose to carry the kayumanggi race on their young shoulders.

Grabe!

This event has changed me. This even is the biggest event of my whole life. It has touched my heart and told me that it is time to give our country love and change. It is time that we must prove the other races that we can move by ourselves-that we are matured enough to handle this land.
I’m happy that I am a part of this movement.
May 9th, 2009 at 11:31 AM
Magandang umaga po sa lahat!
The best movement ever! Sulong mga ka-BRYORG!
Grabe kahit na ginabi na it really was all worth it. This launching didn’t just give me a new perspective about who we’re suppose to be but also gave me the chance to stretch my limits. I was given the chance to serve my ka-BRYORG it was all really worth it.
I’m anticipating for the “dawning of a Brown Renaissance for our beloved country.”
Sulong BRYORG!!!

May 9th, 2009 at 01:23 PM
Isa na namang inspirasyon ito.
If Rizal were alive today, perhaps or well–I’m overtly sure– he would write an impeccable poem titled: “To the youths of BYORG” with tears streaming down his Malay cheeks.

SALAMAT! SALAMAT! SALAMAT!

We are here, Rizal! The youth of the nation, our ancestors have long been waiting for. We are here, Rizal! Rising from the slumber way we lived. The dawn of this country’s redemption will soon rise! We will be the generation of people who will refuse to be slaves, we will rekindle the flame long been gone in the hearts of our fellowmen. Gone will be the days of idle and pettiness, gone will be the days of ignorance and arrogance. In our hearts we carry our weapons, mightier than any sword. We carry in our hearts the fight you have been fighting, we carry in our hearts the love for our dearest motherland. Oh Rizal! We are here!
Lalaban tayo, mga kabataang PALABAN. Armas natin ang ating puso, kalasag natin ang ating kaluluwa.

July 20th, 2009 at 08:14 PM
Kagaya po ni Michael Jackson noong bata pa po siya na “I won’t sing it if I don’t mean it”.

Umiiyak at nagtatanong bakit?
