Ako ay isang Arkitekto Part 1: Ang preparasyon…

Alitaptap

Architechnopreneur is a term coined by our team through our founder, Philipp Inno, which stands for Artist, Architect, Inventor, Innovator, Technologist, Engineer, Environmentalist, Patriot, Philanthropist, Nationalist, Entrepreneur, Intrapreneur, and Revolutionary. It is the 21st century profession that we just created.

Probinsyano Mindset

I finished my elementary and highschool in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro which is considered the gateway of the island paradise of Mindoro from the South. I was raised not in a typical family. My Dad is an OFW; my mom is a business person. I grew up not in a usual house since our home is in the market. Kumbaga isa akong batang laking kanto. This is how I was raised up not just by my parents but also by the society. Iba talaga pag laking probinsya.

The Tamaraw
In line with this, there’s also a trend in Mindoro that after highschool a big percentage of students were sent to Metro Manila to take collegiate courses. I’m one of those guys. But I was so blessed that I wasn’t one of the students who were forced to take courses that they don’t like. I took architecture and both my parents really supported me.Although I performed well in school, The Probinsyano mindset did always popped-up in my mind. That probinsyano students are not competitive compared to the students in Manila. I was advised by a teacher from another school in our province whom I met in one of the sports competitions I joined, “Bakit architecture ang kukunin mo eh draftsman lang ang kakalabasan mo nyan, mag-Engineering ka na lang”. I have nothing against Engineering because it also plays an important role in the building industry and also one of the best allied fields of Architecture.  I sought for the best advice from my teacher who happened to be very supportive of students like me. I felt confident after talking to my teacher. It was a confirmation that I can be an architect someday.
Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
I took B.S. Architecture at Far Eastern University. I had a paradigm shift on my Probinsyano Mindset. Instead of looking at myself as inferior, I made myself ready to be as competitive as possible at all times. My quest was to show them what a Probinsyano like me can do. I also exposed myself outside the school by joining student organizations. On my last year at school, I was given the chance to lead the student council as President and at the same time have a thesis undertaking. One of the great challenges of our batch was to think of a way, in our capacity, to unite both Architecture Department and Fine Arts Department in our institute. It was not an easy mission. We thought of coming up with a design and art magazine that will showcase the best works of students and alumni from both fields. I initially took over the position of Editor-in-Chief not because I am a good writer but due to the need to come-up with a magazine. It was really a challenge.  The project was really impossible during that time but we were able to successfully release it. It was a great team work. It was a great project that helped the institute reunite again.
Osaka Expo 70 - The Philippine Pavillion Our incumbency ended by doing revolutionary works of uplifting again the reputation of the student council, from being corrupt to being a responsible organization. But I need to focus on my thesis. I was able to balance both my academics and extra-curricular activities. To my surprise I was given three awards; Student Leader of the Year Award (a first time in our institute), Architecture Academic Excellence Award and Best Architecture Thesis Award. I did not even aim to get these awards — I just gave my very best

After graduation, I still continued serving as the Editor-in-Chief since I am still training potential staffers of the magazine. Because of this, I was exposed to Heritage Conservation which was a field in architecture that I really loved and enjoyed.

It equipped me to really discover my roots and prove to everyone that Filipino Architecture really exists. We did a lot of research and actual projects like the Jamboree, Symposia, Documentation and Preservation Project like Paco Stone Conservation, Quiapo Cultural Mapping and attempt to come up with database of the heritage sites not recognized by National Historical Institute (NHI) and National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA). My weekly schedule was really jam-packed but my life was really fantastic, fun and full of life. Imagine that if all of us can maximize his or her own time, what positive difference we can really make in our school, community and even in our country.

    Eto Na Po Sila

    ang iyong mga bagong bayani
    sumisibol at lumiliyab

na para bang wala ng bukas
    at nais pang daigin
    ang sinag ng araw
    dito sa Silangan

    Eto na po sila
    lumalaban na
    sumusunod sa yapak mo
    sisindakin ang mundo
    wala pong atrasan to
    kung may lilingunin man
    ang mga kababayan
    na alipin
    dito at sa ibang bansa

    kung may iiyakan man
    ang mga Pilipinong
    walang kaalam-alam
    na sumasamba sa pera’t
    kamangmangan

Eto na po sila Gat Jose Rizal
    ang mga kalahi mo
    nakatayo’t taas nuo
    sumasaludo sa ‘yo
    at nakatingin sa buong Maykapal
    na puno ng pag-asa
    na puno ng pangarap
    para sa bansang ngayon lang
    namin natutunang mahalin

This story is inspiring each of the molecules and atoms of my heart and mind. I can feel the young ones are getting wild at their ambitions for the country. They appear like red roses budding amidst the ruins. Or they look like shiny red balloons floating up in the cloudy sky. They are daring and their courage is from the soul.

  4. Philippines den :) from Manila, Philippines Says:

ako po ay high school pa lamang.

    salamat po. :]
    God Bless! :]

I am definitely impressed by your valiant efforts and contributions. And what caught my attention the most is this part:
“After graduation, I still continued serving as the Editor-in-Chief since I am still training potential staffers of the magazine.”
You never stopped serving! …

  6. Philippines goldwin from Pangasinan, Philippines Says:

  10. Philippines kapitantiyago from Manila, Philippines Says:

Inferiority, that’s what i feel now, i am an Architecture student and i am too came from a province. Hindi madali makasalomoha sa iba, lalo na at halos mga classmates ko ay mga International students and from that very city too. Hinangad ko talaga na maging competitive enough ako lalo na at i have a glimpse of the competition in the world.

  11. Philippines kapitantiyago from Manila, Philippines Says:

    to renmar:

i am too, an architecture students and i’m in my 3rd year.
