The making of the Brown Raise Architect
It was during my 6-month board exam review period when a pioneering endeavor opportunity was offered. I was so hesitant since my focus was the upcoming board exam. But knowing myself as a risk taker and adventurous person, I joined the meeting. I met great talents most especially Sir Philipp Inno, the inventor of the technology who is now my mentor, my coach, my partner and my bestfriend.

The technology was really Filipino. It is a patented invention, with an international rating of A which is rare for an invention in the Philippines. It won first place during the 2004 Department of Science and Technology (DOST) invention competition. The technology is a modular impermanent building system () designed as an emergency shelter system to address shelter problems locally and globally. The mission is to eliminate the global housing backlog. I was so amazed that the opportunity given to me was really remarkable, radical, ground-breaking, and revolutionary. Imagine, I was invited to join a team of technologists.
We formed the Technology Development Dream Team and being the Founding Directors we registered the company. It was also during this time when two of the team members that includes me passed the board exam. It was during the exam when I finally decided to do my purpose as a Filipino Architect, to give my whole life for my country. No reservations! |
| The Team performed well for a year. We even joined national and international competitions. But due to financial difficulty, which is a typical challenge to every start-up companies, the team broke-up. Most of us went abroad to work and others work in local architectural firms. But I made a decision to stay in the team with the inventor. Imagine that with this great opportunity to make a radical change, why would an ordinary person like me given an extraordinary opportunity, quit? We thought our team failed. But we learned that our team just went through a filtering test. Matira ang matibay. Hindi madaling tanggapin na mawalan ng mga mahahalagang kaibigan at mahal sa buhay pero alam ko na mayroong malalim na kadahilan ang bawat pangyayari sa buhay at yun ang aking unti unting inaalam noong mga panahong yun. Adversities didn’t end there. We formed again a team but this time we started everything through a school-like community. Again the team only lasted for half a year. | |

It was on December 2007 when we decided to really focus on the technology’s research and development. We learned that at this stage we cannot have a head to head competition with the conventional method of construction. So we changed our play. Our team leader came up with one powerful commercial product. A product envisioned to be the new necessity of the 21st Century. It was like during the garage days of Apple when they launch their first ever Mac Product. We believed that through this we can help bring the Philippines in the global arena.
It was at Brown Raise Movement that I learned that the solution in our country will come from the provinces. We got a confirmation again. This was in line with our new game plan to start-up everything to a very strategic location in Northern Luzon, in Angeles, Pampanga. |
| We were there to ignite a revolution and to bring about a radical change, to revolutionize the Man’s Shelter. So that it can adapt to the radical changes emerging today and tomorrow. The New Revolution will emerge from our generation and from our nation. The New Revolution is The BLOC Revolution. It is about our quest of reinventing man’s dwelling place. It is our Mission to Revolutionize Man’s Shelter put into Action! It’s about finding Personal Rewards from helping others and one another that would affect the lives of Billions of People around the World.
After launching the Revolution, we were able to encourage potential talents to join us and call them BLOCr (BLOC Revolutionaries). We also got the place to converge and put up our inventions in the heart of Angeles, Pampanga. We are now realizing our dreams. This time we believe that we are now ready. There must be no short cuts. One of our codes is not to cut corners. That’s why our first batch of talents will undergo a training to prepare them for the battle. In order to build high we must dig deep. |

sir, intayin mo po kami! may tatlong taon pa po ako at dalawa. bali limang taon pa. sana po ay magkaroon kayo ng website o kahit simpleng blog para habang nag-aaral pa po ang tulad ko ay maiugnay namin ang prinsipyo ng blocR sa mga plates namin.

Dear Kuya Francis,
Bilib po ako sa nakakahawa ninyong init sa pag-aalsa ng ganitong klaseng aksyon! Nagbabaga at nag-aapoy ang inyong puso! Tila ba ang kabuluhan ng bawat pintig ng inyong pulso ay patungo sa direksyon ng pag-angat at pag-unlad ng mahal na bansang Pilipinas. Mahawahan ninyo nawa ang marami pang Pinoy lalu na ang mga kabataan. At ‘wag lamang silang magningas-kugon kundi mag-sindi at mag-apoy magpakailanman hanggang maisalin ito sa kanilang mga anak at kaapu-apuhan.
Saludo kami sa iyo pagkat Dakilang Pilipino ka! at tularan ka nawa ng nakararami hanggang sa masapawan mahigitan na ang bilang ng mabubuting Pinoy ang masasamang Pinoy.

wooooo!!!!! grabe na kakarefresh ang post na ito. sa skwela naman po kasi ang puro naririnig ko nalang ay trabaho pag graduate tapos abroad tapos pera…walang para sa lahi at bansa. nakakalungkooot talaga! hay! tapos kapag narinig ka pa ng mga kaklase mo tungkol sa Pilipinas aasarin ka pa sasabihin “uuuy! Philippines!” grabe. grabe talaga. ako pa tuloy ang nahihiya! eh dapat sila.

balang araw.. ako po ay nag-aaral bilang civil engineer.
gusto ko pong matapos ito, at may misyon din po akong paglingkuran ang ating bansa…

Go for it! Our country needs a person like you. Bihira na kasi sa ating bansa na nag-iisip para sa bansa at mga mamamayan nito. Minsan kasi kailangan lang na kalimutan mo ang iyong sarili para malaman mo ang tunay na purpose mo sa buhay. Magpatuloy ka lang sir Francis at asahan mo na sa dulo nito ay ang tagumpay ng ating bansa…

May Pagbubukas ng langit n nagaganap… salamat po isa itong inspirasyon… nais ko pong ipagpatuloy ang aking passion in interior designing, hindi lamang dahil sa pangarap ko, ngunit sa nakikita kong pangangailangan ng bansa natin. i trully believe that God is doing something good. God Bless po!

Isang malaking karangalan ang makatagpo ang katulad nyong may puso sa Diyos at sa bayan, at naniniwala akong marami ang nagising at magigising sa akda nyong ito. Kaisa nyo po ako sampu ng ating mga kalahi sa dayuhang bayan, sa adhikaing mapagtagumpayan ang biyayang ipinagkaloob ng Panginoon, na magamit ang inyong pagpapalang kaalaman para sa nakararaming Pilipino at ng buong mundo. Ang magsilbi sa Diyos at sa tao ng walang pagiimbot at may katapatan. Nais ko rin po sanang ialay ang aking biyayang kaalaman sa anumang paraan upang maitaguyod ang inyong adhikaing mapalaganap ang inyong kaalaman sa abot ng aking kakayahan ng may katapatan tungo sa iisa nating adhikain. Maging halimbawa sa mga kabataan nating nagsasaliksik ng tunay na dahilan sa pagpili ng kanilang mga propesyon – ang magamit ang pinagsamasama at kakaibang biyayang talino sa pag angat ng ating lahi. Tulad ng bigkis ng walis na gumaganap ng kanyang tungkulin, di kayang gampanan kung nagiisa lamang syang tingting, tulad rin ng katawan na may kanya kanyang tungkulin na di kayang gampanan ng iba pang bahagi, ang bawat isa na may kakaibang angking talino na dapat gamitin sa pag unlad di lamang ng iisa ngunit ng nakararami. Hi Francis, i was inspired by your blog..im also an architect, but im working outside Philippines, in short OFW. Only few filipino architects has an advocate for Philippine-inspired architecture.Sa tingin ko, each of us (filipino architects) has a responsibility to create our identity in terms of architecture. Team effort po tayo, iaangat po natin ang lahing kayumanggi.

saludo ako sa iyo! isang napakalaking inspirasyon ang maimulat ang mga kabataang mag-aaral natin sa kasalukuyan sa pagmamahal sa sariling lupang tinubuan. maihahalintulad ka sa namumukadkad na talento – na nararapat lang tularan ng iyong generasyon. Sana ay dumami pa ang tulad mong may pagmamahal sa sariling bayan. lalong kailangan natin ang mga katulad mong may paninindigan.

hi, i came across your technology while searching for modular systems for my thesis which is the redevelopment of Angeles City Science High School. i am a graduating bs architecture student in up diliman. i think this technology is the best i have seen in modular design and it’s such a great coincidence that it is Filipino and that you are situated in Angeles where my thesis project is. i want to be a BLOC revolutionary starting with my thesis. i believe BLOC is perfect for my project. Everytime I visit this page. I really got an inspirations! God bless the Philippines and all the Filipino who are daringly dreaming for their beloved country. And I am one of those….Let the brown race be raised!
