From “Race” to “Raise”

Gat. Jose Rizal

The Brown Raise is a movement to CREATE A NEW PATH for the Filipino people by discovering and owning our unique Filipino national identity-restoring our pride as a people and our dignity as individuals. The Brown Raise movement seeks to set ablaze a Filipino’s heart and soul to achieve his highest potential in life so that he can improve and better the Philippines – and as a result, better himself, his family and the next generations as well.

The Brown Raise is a movement that seeks to unlock the secrets and strengths of a race and country which was once called, “the pearl of the orient seas”, and discover and pursue the Philippines’ unique contribution in the hall of nations.

In some universities abroad, it is being taught that the only contribution of the Filipinos today in the global world is to produce domestic helpers. We do not believe that we should forever be condemned in this pitiful condition. We can still change the tide, produce 21st century globally competitive Pinoys, develop our land and our natural resources and be regarded in the world for our perseverance, intelligence, excellence, honor, service and love for our country. We can achieve this if a new generation of Pinoys would rise to change our country: a generation that links its destiny with the destiny of the country.

The Philippines is often summed up as a country that has spent 350 years in a convent, and 50 years in Hollywood. Unknown to many of us and to the world, the Philippines, however, did have a PAST — a glorious one in fact — before the marauding Spanish explorers claimed to have “discovered” us in 1521.

Now is the best time to be a Filipino —for today we have the privilege of rewriting our own story as a people. We are not Pacific Islanders as universities in the West have begun to call us. We belong to Asia and we share the proud culture and heritage of our Asian neighbors.

The great renaissance Malay, our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal said, “There are no tyrants where there are no slaves.”  Our mental slavery has been shackling our race for centuries, but now we can make a difference! The ordinary brown Pinoys in the Philippines and all over the world can finally usher in the most awaited Renaissance of the Philippines through our lives and our dreams. The Filipino people is a noble race and it is our sole task to strive and aim for our Race to become — a Brown Raise!
